Greasing the JL-1341

Greasing the JL-1341

Another warning shot across your “I want to buy a cylinder arm direct from China” bow!
As previously stated, I’m happy and saved $3k on the purchase and have not been “hung out to dry” by the vendor but I do need to be diligent, inquisitive, intuitive and a bit of luck hasn’t hurt. That said here’s my latest find…
The image on the left is my new machine, the image on the right is clipped from the Techsew 4800 Support Video titled: Techsew 4800 Lubrication, Oiling and Grease Points. My vendor said nothing about lubrication and/or grease, she did suggest I compare to the Techsew 4800 Pro for “more information” which obviously I have. The manual lift lever behind the machine, the one that locks the presser foot in the raised position has been an absolute bear to raise, it is just plain tight and takes a good amount of umph to raise the foot, knee lift works fine. I’ve had the machine up and running since the end of the year so that means 6 days of playing around. Both Techsew and my previous machine by Sailrite recommend oiling every 8 hrs or so and I figured after 6 days of putzing and practice and making a single wallet I’d go ahead and lube. Followed the Techsew video for oil and got to the “these are the grease point, check every 3 - 6 months”. Yes, I’ve greased my motorcycle and yes I’ve used grease on the RV and garage door picker-upper, but my sewing machines? Compare the images, the red arrows point out the differences. When oiling I did hit the arrowed points on my JL and it loosened the manual lift, today I’ll wade in with the silicone grease and see how it responses. Of course I have a tube of silicone grease, I’m a guy, we have all kinds of esoteric crap in the garage. More warning shots as they surface. FYI - I want a “Spring edge guide presser foot” as well as a few other pieces, all of which I’ll purchase from Techsew!
